The image of the sorrowful mother was never meant to be a
stagnant, iconic archetype.

She’s not a woman frozen in grief, loyal to suffering as a form
of spiritual purity or love.

Mother Mary was human.

A woman, mother, wife, healer, teacher, sister, friend and a devotee of the Good.

She was no stranger to the human condition.

She was the Mother of God, yet she was initiated by loss.

It was these losses that brought her deeper into the divinity of her
Sovereign Heart.

Whether we call her Mother Mary, the Black Madonna, or the Divine Mother…

At the root of it all, she has always represented the wild, dark,
primordial feminine.

She who allows the heartbreaks of her life to actively alchemize her essence.

She who births creation from the darkness.

These are the initiations that mature all of us.

They are the ancient bridge from Maiden to Mother to Crone.

These thresholds open the heart to divine wisdom, expanded intuition, authentic compassion, more relational ease and greater spiritual understanding.

The heart is where heaven and earth meet in human form.

It is the heart that opens us to our true, essential nature.

The Seven Sorrows have a long history, dating all the way back from 12th century monastics to the 14th-century visions of Saint Bridget of Sweden.

In these apparitions, Mary made a specific request, that we meditate on her
human suffering as much as her divinity.

She offered seven graces, or seven alchemical gifts, that are realized through a
devoted meditation on the journey of her humanity.

In the 1980s, Mother Mary appeared again in Kibeho, Rwanda, with a
prophetic warning of the darkness to come, urging a return to the
meditation of the Sorrows.

These apparitions were just as vivid in the 1980s as they were in the 14th century.

The same journey and request.

While the Church folded this practice into a formal rosary prayer,
the original instructions were much more raw.

They were an invitation to not only return to the heart, but to take refuge in it.

Regardless of our faith.

Her heart is our heart.

Her journey is our journey.

Our sorrows can also open doors to profound mysteries and Grace in our lives.

These seven initiations bring us back to…

❁ The wild nature of what it is to be alive.
❁ The wild nature of what it is to love and experience loss.
❁ The wild nature of what it means to be human and divine.

They root us in the Sovereign Heart.

You are not alone in the wilderness of loss.

If you have ever felt the devotion to the Mother, but not the institution itself…

If you love her in the wild places, the dark primordial liminal spaces, at the crossroads, in all her phases of the moon or in the faces of women who have lost, endured and risen anyway…

This is for you.
